QuickBooks® is the most popular small business accounting software in the country, with millions of users in the U.S. alone. Intuit produces four versions of accounting software:
- Simple Start – For very small businesses
- QuickBooks Pro – For small businesses
- QuickBooks Premier – Like QuickBooks Pro but with special features and reports for a specific industry. There are versions for Professional Services, Manufacturing, Retail, and an Accountant Edition.
- Intuit Enterprise Solutions – Designed for businesses with 20 to 50 employees.
QuickBooks is popular because it’s relatively easy to learn and mostly bug-free, enough so you can get spoiled by how well it works. Intuit, the maker of QuickBooks, is constantly working on new features and releases updates several times a year to fix bugs they discover.

Intuit also produces Enterprise Solutions for businesses too large for QuickBooks Pro. Intuit Enterprise Solutions is a direct upgrade from QuickBooks Pro and Premier and has much improved and more granular security and Intuit integrated applications for warehouse management, business analysis and field service companies that bring industrial strength solutions to your desktop. They will have a sales management CRM solution by the end of 2009.
